In the Year 1997 contributions from Government, coupled with the
personal input of the Band President, Commandant, Col. L. Lindo as well as well
wishers enabled the revitalization of the JCCF Band. To ensure continuity and
success, the Band was placed under the direct responsibility of the
Headquarters.
Assistance was sought by Maj. H. Haynes (deceased) from Major R. A Wade (then
Captain) Director of Music JDF, to guide the musical education of 45 students
from a wide cross section of High Schools and their cadet skills honed by Capt.
M. Levy (then S/Sgt).
In August 1997, the potential band members were taken through two weeks of
extensive musical theory and practical skills. These members showed great
enthusiasm and in October 1997 were introduced to instruments.
On December 5, 1998, the former Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the
Prime Minister, Senator Maxine Henry-Wilson was on hand to witness the re-birth
of the Band and expressed the desire to see it grow from strength to strength.
With the launching, the Band gained great exposure by providing musical
renditions at functions such as Cocktails, Weddings, Civic Functions, Parades,
Graduations, and various other functions.
To date the members of the Band not only play music; they engage in the regular
Cadet Force curriculum and cadets have successfully sat the musical examination set by the
Associate Board of the Royal School of Music in London.
